Amy woke up from slight metal clicking. She probably wouldn’t be able to hear it if she could find at least one pair of ear plugs before going to bed last night. But all earplugs just magically vanished from the house, and she was forced to expose her ears to all possible sounds night and morning could bring. Night wasn’t that bad; besides, she slept much deeper during night hours, but became really sound-sensitive around morning time, so even a deafly heard sound from outside of her closed bedroom door was able to wake her up.
But Amy still was in between dreaming and waking and didn’t get the nature of a quiet but cruel squeaky sound. She didn’t want to exchange her sweet morning dreamy tenderness to reality. The night was too amazing to wake up from it. Suddenly a sharp guess made Amy open her eyes wide. She looked to her right and saw an empty half of her bed. She now was sure that the squeaky sound was a sound of an entry door lock. Gordon was gone.
Amy sat on her bed looking around as if she was afraid she lost something. She was looking for a note. She couldn’t believe Gordon could walk away without at least leaving her a note. She started palming a pillow he slept on as if she thought she still couldn’t yet see with her sleepy eyes a white piece of paper on a white pillowcase and hoped to find it, but there was nothing on a pillow. She bent over “Gordon’s” side of the bed and looked at the floor, but there was no note there either. She hopelessly looked again on both nightstands as if she was sure she won’t find anything but still wanted to look just in case. There was no sign of a note.
Amy grabbed her cell phone from a nightstand and started to scroll a phone book, selected “Gordon” in the list and was just about to press a call button, but her finger froze above it. She screwed her face into wrinkles, and then slowly put the phone back on a nightstand.
For a minute there she sat in her bed looking through her tows thinking about something, then opened her eyes wide and touched her lips kind of covering her mouth from unwanted words to come out. She jumped off the bed and rushed to vanity mirror. She gave her reflection a level and up close look and touched her face right under right eye, noticing small shallow wrinkles. She backed up a little and looked at herself again. Then turned to see her profile and gathered in her already flat stomach. Then relaxed again, turned her front back to the mirror, and looked at herself as if he was confused.
She slowly returned back to her bed and sit on it. She was looking somewhat aside, as if she was remembering something, then made a deep sight, stood up, vigorously walked to the coffee table, grabbed a beautiful bouquet of red roses from a vase and took it to the kitchen, where she dumped it in the trash can. She got back to her bedroom, put on a silk robe, then noticed a walnut-size drop-shaped crystal , took it from a nightstand, for a few second glanced at it as if she was making an unpleasant decision, and then made her way back to the kitchen where she apathetically dropped crystal in a trash can as well.
Amy walked to the window where she crossed her arms and stood for a few minutes watching trees slowly moving with the wind. Then she smiled and gave her hair a smooth as if she was trying to wipe off some annoying thought. She turned around approached a counter and started making coffee with a roving and slightly sad smile. When coffee was ready, she poured some in her favorite mug and was on her way to the living room when she heard a door knob turning.
She walked to the entry door watching as someone was trying to open her locked door from outside of her house. When she came close to the door, someone outside gave up on trying and rang a door bell.
– Who is it? – Amy asked
– It’s me.
Amy recognized the voice. She smiled and opened the door. Gordon was holding a tray with two tall coffee cups and two big donuts. He looked at the mug Amy was still holding in her hand and asked smiling:
– Sweetheart, well, couldn’t you wait just 10 minutes? Here’s the best coffee in town, your favorite. Sorry, I didn’t want to wake you up…
All this time Amy was looking at him clueless. She whispered:“So stupid”, – turned around, and almost run to the kitchen.
– Wait, where are you going?
– Just to get rid of this coffee I made, – she yelled, while trying to find a walnut-size drop-shaped crystal in a trash can.
